Mini Vinnies are the junior branch of the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) for children aged 7-11 years.  Their motto is to 'See, Think and Do!'  All children are invited to attend once a month prior to the Children's Mass in the church hall at 10:15am.    Activities are fun and include arts and crafts, prayers and opportunities to see, think and do in relation to their faith.  For more information please email:  catechists.chard.englishmartyrs@cliftondiocese.com.'

Our parish is organising a trip to 'FLAME UNSTOPPABLE - Fan the flame of hope' at OVO Arena Wembley, London on Saturday 15th March 2025 with Clifton Diocese, available for all our youngsters aged 13+.  The event organised by the Catholic Youth Ministry Federation (CYMFED) and involves live music and Gospel inspiration. Two DBS checked leaders will escort our group.  We travel by coach. More information at https://cymfed.org.uk/flame/.  If your child is interested in going, please let us know soon at catechists.chard.englishmartyrs@cliftondiocese.com so that we can benefit from Early Bird tickets.  The cost is likely to be around £60 each - some financial support may be available from the parish.

Flame is the largest Catholic youth gathering in the UK, and we can’t wait for it’s return in March 2025! Most recently, in March of last year, Flame 2023 welcomed over 8,000 young people to the OVO Arena, Wembley for a day of inspirational speakers, world-class Christian musicians and moments of prayer and Adoration.

Reflections from young people and group leaders have highlighted the transformative experience that Flame has provided young people. In his welcome address, Fr Dominic Howarth, chair of the Flame organising group, reminded young people that this is “Church as you’ve never seen it before, Church as you’ve never been it before. But have no doubt, this is Church.”

The atmosphere within the crowd was fantastic, everyone joined in and it felt like a big community coming together to celebrate what they love most in the world. It was the best experience I have had and I would love to go again. I will never forget it.

Confirmation

An application to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation must be signed by the young person wishing to receive the sacrament, and a parent or guardian.  English Martyrs does not have a bespoke programme for confirmation, rather it prepares children for the sacrament as part of its Faith in Action scheme.  Children preparing for confirmation are expected to fully participate in the scheme which helps them to become more conversant with their faith and to put it into action.
